Do I have to remove my clothing?
No, you may remain fully clothed. You will be asked to dress down to YOUR comfort level. You will be properly draped at all times and only the area being massaged will be exposed.
- Gowns are available.
Are oils used?
A variety of lotions and oils are used. Lotions are usually hypoallergenic and scent less. Please let your therapist know what you would prefer.
You may also request that no lotions or oils be used.
Is massage painful?
There is a difference between "it hurts so good" and "it hurts". Your session should not be painful. Your therapist will check in with how you're feeling periodically. Always feel comfortable to inform your therapist of ANY discomfort at ANY time. It is not unusual to feel a little achy the next day. Call the clinic if you have any questions or concerns.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, work comp and no-fault claims are accepted. Union insurances are also accepted. Contact your personal insurance company to check for massage therapy coverage. If the answer is yes, we may be a provider for you. (SEE How to Begin Massage Therapy Under Insurance below.)
Do I have a choice of therapist?
- There are seven State of Hawaii licensed massage therapists on board at this time. You may have the preference of who works with you. Your request is honored. If you wish to experience another therapist's technique, please let us know and we'll be happy to refer you to another therapist or you may select one yourself.
- No-Fault and Work Comp Insurance claims: A primary therapist is assigned to your case for insurance claims sessions. This is so one therapist is familiar with your case and can detect changes easily. You will also have a back up therapist in the event your primary therapist is unable to see you. At all times, if you have questions please speak to the Principal Massage Therapist who oversees the clinic.
Am I bound to the same therapist?
No.
May I select a male or female therapist?
Yes.
Do you do "couples" massage?
We are glad to offer massage sessions at the same time for two or three people. Each person has a separate treatment room. However, if you wish, we will fit two persons in one room.
How do I begin massage treatments under an insurance claim (Work Comp and No Fault)?
First, see your physician so he can diagnose and assess what you are feeling and why you are feeling the way you do.
If you were injured on the job, you must file a report with your employer's Human Resources Department.
If you were injured in a vehicle accident, contact your insurance company to open a claim.
Your physician must send us a prescription for massage therapy.
